Moving to Chicago, United States of America

ChicagoChicago is America’s third largest city, situated on the shore of Lake Michigan, and has grown to become a diamond in America’s rough, with great opportunities arising in many industries in the city. The fact that people underestimate Chicago as a great city of America has worked out nicely for the people of the city, who are constantly proving to the world how successful the metropolis can be.

Roughly 70% of all jobs in the US are found through networking, so for people looking to work in Chicago, one of the first things to do is to build a network. Contacts are vital in such a large country like America, and Chicago consists of many networking clubs and societies in which new expats can get involved with and improve their networking chain, which in time leads to a better chance of getting work.

For expats looking to work and live in Chicago, there are many reasons as to why it is considered a good choice. Improvements and upgrades are constantly being made by the city’s leaders from infrastructure to education systems, healthcare to general liveability factors. Attracting large national and international organisations to set up here is an ongoing process that Chicago have been working on, allowing more jobs to be available in the long run.

The cost of living in Chicago is higher than the national average, however when compared to other big cities like New York and San Francisco it is much lower.

Hi, I'm from Northern Ireland, and hoping to find out all the information I can about getting sponsorship to work in Boston.
I am ideally looking for marketing and events based roles, and would hugely appreciate any help people can send me with regards to companies hiring for such roles? How to apply for sponsorship? Or really, any tips or details about the entire process. Thanks!

Here is a link for all available hospitality/hotel jobs in America http://bit.ly/HfCGbw However if you plan on going to work in the US, you will need a working visa. Have you thought about this factor?

Hey,

I'm looking for work as a Medical Secretary (or just a secretary) in America, perferably Chicago. However I'm from Ireland and don't really know how to approach possible employers about sponsorship. Does anyone know how to find out which companies are more likely to sponsor me for work visas?

Thanks. :)

Hi Regina,

When it comes to getting sponsorships from US companies, it is very much depending on the industry they are in. Your best bet is to research job vacancies and choose several companies to approach. You must explain to them why they should sponsor you, so be sure to really sell yourself to them and make them want you in particular. Sponsored employees all must prove what makes them better than someone who can fill the role in Chicago, or wherever it may be, otherwise they will hire local talent.

Also have you checked out the Secretary roles available in Chicago at the moment..... http://bit.ly/GAOml8 and http://bit.ly/GCGQbJ.

Hope this helps :)
