Moving to Boston, United States of America

Boston is the capital of and largest city in Massachusetts, and is one of the oldest cities in the United States. With many well recognised colleges and universities within the city and surrounding area, Boston is an international centre of higher education and medicine. For this reason alone, along with the attractive districts and high paying jobs, has resulted in many expats moving here and working in Boston.

BostonWith some of the best Universities in the country including Harvard and MIT, this makes Boston a highly academically driven city. As a result of Boson’s highly educated population, the city’s industries have taken advantage of this by hiring many locals to work in Boston.

The city’s economy is primarily based on research, electronics, engineering, finance and high technology – principally biotechnology. As a result of this entire city filled with intelligence, Boston was ranked number one for innovation, both globally and in North America. Boston was recently ranked among the top 10 cities in the world for a career in finance, which is a major attraction for anyone in that industry who is looking to work in Boston.

Boston carries a true cultural background having retained the colonial roots of its English founders and many Irish immigrants over the years. Boston is sometimes called a "city of neighbourhoods" because of the profusion of diverse subsections, as a result of expats moving to Boston looking for work.

Boston has one of the highest costs of living in the United States, though it remains high on world liveability rankings, ranking third in the US and 37th globally.

Hi, I'm from Northern Ireland, and hoping to find out all the information I can about getting sponsorship to work in Boston.
I am ideally looking for marketing and events based roles, and would hugely appreciate any help people can send me with regards to companies hiring for such roles? How to apply for sponsorship? Or really, any tips or details about the entire process. Thanks!

I'm looking for work as a Medical Secretary (or just a secretary) in America, perferably Chicago. However I'm from Ireland and don't really know how to approach possible employers about sponsorship. Does anyone know how to find out which companies are more likely to sponsor me for work visas?

Thanks. :)

Hi Regina,

When it comes to getting sponsorships from US companies, it is very much depending on the industry they are in. Your best bet is to research job vacancies and choose several companies to approach. You must explain to them why they should sponsor you, so be sure to really sell yourself to them and make them want you in particular. Sponsored employees all must prove what makes them better than someone who can fill the role in Chicago, or wherever it may be, otherwise they will hire local talent.

Also have you checked out the Secretary roles available in Chicago at the moment..... and

Hope this helps :)
