I am currently working as an online content writer and editor for www.hostels.com, www.hostelworld.com and www.bedandbreakfastworld.com.
This role involves writing travel features, blogs and city guides, compiling content for newsletters and overseeing their design as well as how they are received by our subscribers. Other duties include SEO research for all online content, researching topics/ destinations for future content, and analysing and reporting on traffic through Omniture and Google Analytics.
I am also responsible for running the social media outlets for two out of the three of the aforementioned websites. This involves tracking visits and bookings through these mediums as well as keeping up to date on all advances in the world of social media.
This role also involves working as a travel journalist in order to gather content for our city guides. This content includes writing city guides, shooting and producing travel videos and organising and interviewing people of interest for podcasts.
Spin South West Radio Station - Broadcast journalist
I worked with the newsroom in Spin South West Radio on a freelance/ cover work basis. This role involved using the Burli news system, INN news feeds, writing to the radio stations style, composing news, sports and entertainment news on the hour and reading the news live on air. This role also involved updating the website on numerous occasions throughout the day, in a concise, legible and accessible way for website users. There was also a lot of communication required in this position with fellow newsroom staff, djs, producers and local organisations which help enhance our news content.
Community Radio: Radio Kilkenny 104.3fm - Broadcast journalist - Head of Newsroom & Presenter
I volunteered with a community radio station that was given a broadcasting license for one month. I helped out with the promotion of the station before its launch, and undertook a training course with the station in different aspects of broadcasting. For the one month on-air I undertook various roles with Radio Kilkenny including: Presenter of ‘The Right Frequency’, Head of Newsroom and a Producer/ Researcher
Voice Provincial Newspaper Group - Sub-editor
I was on a team of four sub-editors primarily responsible for the sub-editing, design and layout of The Voice Magazine, and a team of two sub-editors in charge of the editing and design of two accompanying Property Broadsheets. I also assisted in the sub-editing and layout on all county titles of The Voice Newspapers.
