Hey all,

Just wanted to post a short message seeing if anybody knew much or anything about the surfing world in Ireland.  Im from California and heard Ireland has some really nice places to surf but don't know a lot about the country because I have never been yet.

Any help, info, links, pics, reccommendations at all would be awesome!

Thanks guys,

Casey

Lahinch is a popular spot. You'll need a wetsuit! http://www.lahinchsurfexperience.com/

Hi Casey,

The best surf in Ireland can naturally to be found on the west coast, you'll get some amazing surf coming in from the Atlantic. See http://magicseaweed.com/Carrowniskey-Surf-Report/986/. There are plenty of good quality beach breaks (depending on your level) and reefs if your looking for a bit more of a challenge. Really you will need to rent a car to have any comfort in getting to surf destinations as many beaches are located off the beaten track. Donegal, Clare, Kerry and Mayo have some of the best surf that I've experienced. Depending on what time of year that you are coming you will need a winter wetsuit (possibly with boots, gloves and a hood) / long sleeve summer wetsuit (May / Sept). The weather here is pretty mild all year around. The average cost for renting out boards and wetsuits for 2 hours is around €15 - 25.

 Some recommendations include:

http://www.bundoransurfco.com/  - Bundoran, Co. Donegal

http://www.surfmayo.com/ - Lousiburgh / Westport, Co. Mayo (I would recommend checking out Carrowniskey for good surf on an uncrowed beach)

http://www.benssurfclinic.com/ - Lahinch, Co. Clare

http://tonntamag.com/

Irish people are pretty friendly so you can be sure to pick up lots of insider knowledge and tips from the locals over a post surfing pint of Guinness (provided that it's your round of course). ;-)

Happy surfing!!!
