About Red Bluff Plantation

Located between the Wright River and the New River in Jasper County in South Carolina, Red Bluff Plantation (RBP) consists of forested area spanning over 6,400 acres. Only eleven miles from downtown Savannah, Georgia, Red Bluff Plantation is largely untouched by development and is home to several historical structures.

Its history traces back to the 1685, when William Gravely built the first house on the property. Some of the building structures currently on the property include houses, barns, old breastworks, and a 7,200-sqaure-foot plantation house. Extending three miles inland, the breastworks were built for use as Confederate fortifications.

In 2011, American Timberlands Company (ATC) purchased RBP and developed a conservation plan to obtain tax benefits and expand it to its current acres. The company also completed work on the plantation’s buildings and constructed a new dock and boat landing along the riverside. It made renovations to the overseer’s house, plantation house, tenant houses, and barns.

The surrounding forest lands of Red Bluff Plantation include 4,400 acres of marsh and wetlands and 2,000 acres of high ground that contain a variety of wildlife. Deer, quail, waterfowl, and turkey are among the wildlife inhabiting the area.
