ISPCC - Phone volunteer

The training within the ISPCC is very intense as it is condensed into a eight week programme with two nights a week consisting of child protection, listening skills etc.. While in Childline I attended proficiency training, supervisory training and mentoring training. One important part of the volunteering is the ability to collect information and make decisions based on the information given.

I was the mentor of a weekly shift and also supervised new volunteers. One important thing I learned form my time in the ISPCC is the ability to leave your job behind you when you go home.

I also conducted interviews for new volunteers with the manager and helped with the training.

Upstairs Downstairs - Catering Supervisor

I originally started in Upstairs Downstairs on a probation period of one month. In that time I proved to be hard working and eager to get things right. I was kept on after the month and worked there for nearly two years. I learned many catering skills in that time including customer skills and food safety. After a year my employer asked me to be a supervisor of the cafe when they were not on the premises and they were happy with the work I carried out on their part.
