Reviewing and controlling the assignment team on the field.

Coordinating communication & information flow between client management and firm management. Preparing management letters and other deliverables to clients.

Proof-reading & checking financial statements for compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards and the Companies Act (Kenya) before publication.

Assisting in inducting and training of new and junior staff.

Preparing & reviewing income tax computations and returns and carrying out VAT refund claim audits for key clients.

Milly Fruit Processors Limited - Internal Auditor

Milly Fruit Processors Limited was part of a family owned group (other companies involved in grain milling, tanning, and glass bottle manufacturing) engaged in the business of extracting pulp and juices from tropical fruits like mangoes, pineapples. It later ventured in making ready to drink fruit juices sold in glass bottles under the Picana brand. In 2001 it got the licence to bottle and sell the VIMTO carbonated soft drink.

Responsibilities
Supervising the preparation of financial records, management accounting reports, preparing financial statements and liasing with external auditors.

On a daily basis approving all bank payment vouchers and non-routine purchasing.

As a special exercise carried out an investigation into the group’s financial and cost accounting systems and reporting to Group Managing Director. Subsequently carried out a study on the insurance and other contracts of the group and compared the cost to those available in the market.

HLB Kassim-Lakha Samvir Abdulla - Audit Senior

HLB Kassim-Lakha Samvir Abdulla (now Pannell Kerr Foster Kenya)was a medium sized professional firm, offering audit, accountancy, tax and advisory services mainly to family owned medium sized businesses.

Responsibilities

To provide leadership to the audit teams. I would be involved in planning, executing and reviewing audit work performed in the field. I also had to communicate issues arising from the audit to the firm’s partners and with clients to ensure these are resolved.

Also prepared income tax computations and tax returns. Occasionally carrying out VAT refund claim audits for exporters and other clients.

On ad-hoc management consultancy assignments undertaken by the firm, I worked on special investigations, due diligence audits for acquisition of businesses, carried share/ business valuations, feasibility/viability studies for business proposals, prepared cash flow projections and business plans for financing proposals to banks for clients.
