Working with companies in the travel technology, banking, telecoms and other sectors to communicate their products through marketing, PR and technical materials.
Projects to date include:
- Technical documentation for UK based technology supplier to the travel industry including user and configuration guides for Web based travel application and user guide for CMS toolkit for the development of travel booking Web sites.
- Contributing to patent disclosures and white papers for Cambridge, UK ,based IC design technology company.
- Technical (user and developer guides) and marketing communications documentation for Irish based travel technology provider. Also the development of templates and implementation of standards for documentation in the company.
- Technical user documentation for Irish based telecoms company for its test platform which provides network and application layer emulation, performance and QoS analysis.

Datalex Plc - PR/Marketing Manager, EMEA
Datalex Plc. are a technology provider for the global airline and travel industries. Their product range includes Internet booking engines, middle-ware platforms, fares management and distribution systems. (www.datalex.com)
Responsibilities:
Product Marketing – My responsibilities included the development and implementation of branding, positioning, messaging, and launch plans for Datalex integrated travel technology systems in the EMEA region. I also represented the company at the TTI (Travel Technology Initiative) and ABTA Industry Travel Partners forums
Marketing/PR – I was editorially responsibility for all Marketing Communications in this region i.e. below and above the line advertising, public relations material, investor relations material, case study development, marketing collateral, FAQs, RFI/RFP documentation , product descriptions, Internet communications, sales presentations, and pre/post tradeshow communications.
Technical Writing – I was responsible for the technical documentation for the Irish based organisation and managed a junior writing team. Technical documentation included Functional Specifications, Developers Guides, User Guides, (plus online help systems) for Java and XML based solutions and SDKs.
TDP International LTD - Contract Writer/Project Co-ordinator
TDP supplied technical writing support to national and international clients.
Projects that I undertook for this company included the writing of developer guides for a Java based e-commerce API product and the review and editing of training material for UNIX based mail server software. I also managed projects and mentored junior writers.
Euristix Ltd (Now Marconi) - Contract Technical Writer/Product Marketing Specialist
Euristix developed software for the telecommunications industry specialising in Element Management Systems, Intelligent Networking, Voice over IP, Wireless IN and Advanced Signalling.
Product Marketing – Reporting to the International Marketing Manager, I was involved with the development and implementation of branding, positioning, messaging, packaging, demonstrations, and launch plans for Euristix RACEMAN telecom network management software product line.
Marketing/PR – My editorial responsibility for Euristix global marketing communications included below and above the line advertising, public relations, case study development, Internet communications, Euristix TeleMan newsletter publication, and pre/post tradeshow communications.
Technical Writing – I also had responsibility for writing user guides and developers guides (plus online help systems) for C and C++ development projects, and user and engineering training courses.
System Dynamics Ltd. - Operations Manager Technical Writing Dept.
System Dynamics supplied contract writers and programmers to client companies.
I was Operations Manager for the Technical Writing department in Systems Dynamics managing a team of writers. My responsibilities included project management, liaison with clients, project estimation, mentoring of junior writers and editing of materials.
I also wrote engineering and end user documentation and online help and training material for clients.
IT Consultant - Allied Irish Banks, Plc.
In the IT section of AIB, I supported the development of a customer services department for the sales and support of a new Cash Management and Electronic Funds Transfer product, called Orator.
My responsibilities included the customisation and testing of the Orator product, providing technical support and installation services to customers and the documentation of the product.
I also implemented a LAN and local Windows applications for the department as it migrated from a DOS based environment to a Windows environment, and I developed a management information and technical support database and billing system using R-Base.
European Text Resources - Customer Services Engineer
My responsibilities as Customer Services Engineer in EuroText included PC and peripheral hardware and software technical support to customers; pre-sales support; tradeshow support; database programming; technical writing.
Nixdorf Computers Ltd - Field Service Engineer
As Field Services Engineer with Nixdorf, I initially was responsible for the repair and maintenance of mini computers for Nixdorf’s banking and business systems and peripherals. I then specialised in the installation and maintenance of Nixdorf PABX systems, and other data and telecommunications equipment, including the maintenance of an X.25 network for the car industry. With the emergence of PCs in business environments, my role was extended to include the support of PCs and PC applications for customers.
