Beaumont Hospital - Laboratory Aide
This was a summer job for two successive years. Duties included receiving biological samples and loading them onto analytical machines and subsequently filing them away. I also managed the phone to deal with enquiries and input patient information onto a database.
Beaumont Hospital - Catering Assistant
Duties included distributing meals to patients and collecting and cleaning up afterwards. I also took patient orders for meals and communicated this information to management for the next days meals. HACCP was in operation so I had first hand experience in utilising this system.
I was regularly entrusted with overlooking the catering needs of entire wards when the full-time individual in this role was off-duty. An efficient and organized approach to the task was required. I also co-ordinated with ward nurses to ensure patients with special dietary requirements (e.g. diabetes) were given suitable meals.
Toasara Products Lts. - General Operative
This was a summer job for three successive years. Duties included packaging of pharmaceutical products and preparing them for delivery. I also completed a work based assignment as part of my diploma course in applied biology. It was based on quality control and duties included monitoring individual batches of produce for approval and ensuring orders had been tested and approved for distribution in a timely manner. Other duties included document filing and ensuring staff complied with health and safety regulations.
