Jim Armstrong's Professional Experience
Cape Engineering - Cryogenic Insulation Supervisor
Supervising and training workforce in Crogenic Insulation techniques.
Cape Engineering - Insulation Superintendent
I was employed by Cape Engineering on an LNG plant in Arzew Algeria. My main function is to manage a team of over 600 Insulators mainly from Algeria but incorporating up to 250 Indonesian and 150 Malaysian Cryogenic Insulation specialists. I have been brought in to oversee that good working practices are being adhered to and completed within the parameters laid down in the specification and within budget.
RBG Limited - Surveying Consultant
I am engaged by RBG Ltd to carry out insulation surveys on various offshore installations to determine the scope of work involved and advise on the various and most suitable specification available. I also advise on estimated man hours to complete the scope of work as well as any possible issues regarding access and health & safety.
Maersk FPSO - Insulation Specialist
Maersk were having problems with the insulation installed on a new FPSO being built in Singapore. I was brought in to remedy the insulation problems that had occurred in Thailand and Batam. I have also had to deal directly with the customer Statoil who have raised concerns about the insulation installation and control. After only one month I hade produced a complex document at the request of Statoil and Maersk. The document in question was an ISP (Insulation procedure and Specification). I also implemented a strict quality control system by composing an ITP (Insulation Test Pack). Statoil are very satisfied with my impact on the project and now deal directly with me on insulation matters allowing the Maersk management to concentrate on more pressing matters, they are no longer distracted by problems with the insulation.
KBR - Insulation Superintendent
KBR were engaged by a consortium of Egyptian companies (EBIC) to manage the design & construction of a $700m ammonia plant in Egypt. Hired to rescue this failing project & oversee all insulation activities. Assessed technical spec; identified major problems with two 48,000 ton ammonia storage tanks; chaired meetings with KBR; revised spec; oversaw installation team; and re-installed PUR foam in line with manufacturer’s guidelines. Led remedial work to make storage tanks fully operational & negotiated extended warranty from manufacturer & contractor.
