I am a Staff nurse in the Renal Unit of Beaumnont Hospital (employed on Hamilton ward) - Specialising in the areas of Nephrology, Haemodialysis, Peritoneal Dialysis and Transplantation.
I am responsible for providing nursing care to clients receiving renal replacement therapies, including haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and renal transplantation.
Key responsibilities are - to educate clients on renal replacement therapies, lifestyle changes, diet, drugs and procedures in accordance with Hospital policy
- Provide education and training to both clients and their families on correct uses and maintenance of their home dialysis machine
- Perform peritoneal dialysis as per hospital policy. Educate new staff on the correct techniques and safe use of machinery
- Act as preceptor to student nurses in order to develop their competencies and nursing skills
- Promote health and indepence in dependent clients
