Work category

I am an enthusiastic and trustworthy employee with excellent interpersonal skills and who is able to provide high levels of customer service. I have spent over five years working for Surrey Police as an Investigating Officer on the Major Crime Team working closely with colleagues and members of the public to investigate crimes. This has given me experience in working in high pressure situations with deadlines dealing with members of the public who were often distressed and effective communication is essential.
I work well as a member of a team and independently. I enjoy raising money for charity by completing challenges such as the London Moon walk for breast cancer care and the steps under the stars walk for Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice. I am also an active Guide and volunteer as an assistant leader for Rainbows.
Due to the birth of my son I am now looking for evening and weekend work.

Surrey Police, Major Crime Team - Investigating Officer

I obtained this role after completing my degree in Foensic Science. This role involves talking to members of the public and obtaining information through excellent communication and listening skills and preparing it in a format required by the investigation such as written reports and statements. This was done either face to face or over the telephone. I was also involved in the obtaining of CCTV evidence and the responsibility of handling exhibits essential to the investigation. Everything had to be done to a level that would be acceptable to a court. I was expected to control and prioritise my own work load and work closely with other members of my own team, other departments within Surrey police and when required other forces within the UK. I also worked with other organisations such as south East Coast Ambulance Service, Fire services and NHS organisations to gather correct and detailed information. Secondary to this role I was a Family Liaison Officer where I either worked on my own or with another to be the link between the investigation and the family requiring excellent interpersonal skills and strength of character. I am also significant witness trained meaning that I would carry out recorded interviews with significant witnesses preparing incredibl detailed statemntss. I also spent a six month attachment with the Surrey Coroner’s Office working with bereaved families guiding them through the process that occurs when a person dies.
