Crowdingup - Founder

Crowding Up is a company that was set up as an online social media marketing company. We saw a gap in the market for companies to use social media to crearte buzz or newsworthy events, videos, tweets, or blog entries that attract attention, and become viral in nature for client organisations. This was achieved through competitions, surveys and crowd sourcing, thus creating them more followers, more brand awareness and more back links to their website.

We had set this up for our masters practicum and received a first class honours. The business was applying for incubation in DCU but we decided to put it on hold as i was working on an ecommerce project( Fitzpatricks Shoes) and also on an award winning social media campaign that has seen an Irish charity go from 1k facebook fans to over 85k and a huge increase on twitter.

Needajobdone - Founder

My business partner and I developed a new site called Needajobdone in February 2010. The site was meant to be launched earlier but unforeseen problems arose around programming difficulties.

Needajobdone was an online marketplace for the placement of tradesmen and service contracts. It was a place for users to come and find local tradesmen for any job. It provided a platform that allowed quality tradesman & service providers to quote on jobs posted by people looking to get them done properly and according to their needs. The site had far more features then any other similar sites abroad and it was the first of its kind in Ireland to utilize a bidding system for people to get multiple offers.

Upon launching competition quickly appeared and we were unable to compete against the massive expensive advertising campaigns that these companies had. In August 2009 the business was put on hold until such time that a new source of funding appeared or market saturation reduced.
